This is a plain-language summary of the terms for using the AltShield Discord bot and this website ("the Service"). It is not a substitute for legal advice - if you operate AltShield commercially or at scale, you may want a lawyer to review this before relying on it.
By adding AltShield to a Discord server, logging into the dashboard, or completing verification through AltShield, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
AltShield is a Discord bot that verifies new server members against rules a server admin configures (for example: minimum Discord account age, Steam/Twitch account checks), and can flag or block accounts that appear to be duplicates ("alts") of an account already used to verify elsewhere. Server admins configure and manage these rules through the web dashboard at this domain.
You must meet Discord's own minimum age and account requirements to use Discord at all, and by extension to use AltShield. AltShield does not independently verify your age beyond whatever a server's rules happen to check (e.g. account age), and does not collect or ask for a date of birth.
Verification uses the official OAuth login flow for Discord and, where a server requires it, Steam, Twitch, and/or Riot Games. AltShield never sees or asks for your password on any of these platforms - logging in happens entirely on Discord's, Steam's, Twitch's, or Riot's own site (Riot Sign-On). See the Privacy Policy for exactly what account data is read and stored as a result.

AltShield offers a Free plan and a Plus plan (see the documentation for what each includes). Plus is purchased and billed through Stripe, our payment processor - AltShield never sees or stores your card details, Stripe's own hosted Checkout and Customer Portal pages handle that directly. A server's plan reflects whether an active Plus subscription currently exists for it, and can also be changed directly by whoever operates the bot for you.
AltShield is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied - including that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its checks (e.g. alt-account detection) will be perfectly accurate. Third-party services it depends on (Discord, Steam, Twitch, and their APIs) are outside our control and can change or go down without notice.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of AltShield is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including moderation decisions made using its output.
A server admin can remove AltShield from their server at any time via Discord's own server settings. We may also suspend or remove the Service from a server that violates these Terms or Discord's policies.
These Terms may be updated from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will change when they do. Continuing to use AltShield after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
